This is the variety of monkshood that is native to central Europe. It is a pretty plant with panicles of dark blue to violet flowers. Like with all monkshoods the flowers are shaped like the helmet of a knight. Flowering period is from July to August. It looks especially pretty in the shadow of smaller trees. Like all other monkshoods it is highly poisonous in all parts. It is probably the most powerfull poison of all native plants.
