Not long ago the Snowdrop Windflower was a very common plant in many regions of Central Europe, but today its populations went down dramatically or disappeared completely. In this case it is not only the destruction of its habitats (semi-arid grassland) that causes the decline of this species, but it also showed that the plant can`t compete with invasive species that grow in the same habitat. Today you will rather come across a Snowdrop Windflower in a garden than in the wild. A quite peculiar situation if you consider that a generation ago it could be found almost everywhere.
The relationship to the Wood Anemone is obvious, the Snowdrop Windflower is just bigger and later flowering. Its flowers are honey-scented and loved by bees.
