This variety - if it really is a variety - is one of the few hardy waterlilies created by Pring. It was released in 1942. According to Pring it is a mutation that occured in Missouri Botanic Garden. However this mutation looks very much like the pink subspecies of Nymphaea tetragona that occurs in just a few lakes in Finnland and that is known as Nymphaea tetragona var. fennica. On the other side `Joanne Pring` develops some sort of tiny Marliac-Rhizom, while true tetragonas don`t develop such a rhizome. The existence of a rhizome indicates that it is rather a hybrid and not a mutation. Only genetic analysis will be able to solve this puzzle. To the only important fact is that this is the smallest pink hardy waterlily in existance.
