No, that`s no misspelling. This variety is really spelled with O and this is the story behind it: it is a hybrid by Florida Aquatic Nurseries from 2001. The nursery gave the right to name the new variety to a charity performance where it was sold by public sale. Successfull bidder was a certain Mr. Witstock who in turn passed the right to his wife Carla. She decided to name the plant in honour of her sons `Carla`s Sonshine`.
`Carla`s Sonshine` is in many respect unique. It is the only viviparous yellow variety, the only yellow variety with mottled foliage, and the only yellow variety that remains just medium sized when fully grown. If you look closely you can tell by the colour that `Albert Greenberg` is in the parentage, for there are slight hues of apricot among the yellow. In any case it is an outstanding variety and it beams in the pond like Mrs. Witstock probably beamed when she was allowed to name it.
