This variety is propably result of a cross of Mentha aquatica and an unknown garden variety. It is named after the village Mitcham where it once was grown in fields. Today Mitcham is a quarter of London, and mint farming is nothing but a memory there. In your garden this mint prefers remarkably more moisture than most other varieties. Typical is the strong taste of menthol and the reddish hue on the leaves.
