Once a common plant today rare and endangered. It floats without any roots below the surface of the water or remains laying on the ground. It is also one of the few native carnivorous plants. The whole plant is covered with tiny bladders. Inside the bladders the pressure is lower than outside. If for example a mosquito larva toutches thes bladder, it opens quickly and the larva is torn into the bladder by the underpressure. Once inside the bladder it can`t escape and is eaten up from the plant. So the bladderworts are your allies in the fight against mosquitos. It is also a pretty plant for it bears yellow flowers in summer. In autumn the plant rolls up to a small globe that sinks to the ground of the pond. Next spring this globe emerges again and developes a new bladderwort.
