This plant is better know by its synonym Origanum heracleoticum. If you were in Greece and found your sheet cheese or salad topped with oregano, it was problably this variety. Its taste is much better than that of standard Italian oregano, for it is richer and more complex. In the garden the plant prefers sunny and very dry spots. Only under this conditions it will develope its full taste, and only it dry soil it proofs hardy. Our stock plants grow in a raised bed where they survived temperatures as low as - 20° C.
