From the south of the US comes a group of marsh mallows that are on the edge of being hardy in Central Europe. They survive milder winters almost everywhere, in colder winters they need protection. The Greater Marsh-Mallow is an impressive plant in summer. The wetter its position the larger it flowers grow. During summer it is best kept in the shallow parts of a pond. The colour of the flowers of our plants varies, it is obviously not the true wild form we grow but a multicoloured garden selection.
We keep this plant over winter in an unheated polytunnel, that`s sufficient as winter protection. Since it goes dormant in autumn you can also treat it as a container plant and keep it in a dark and cool room during winter.
