Cardinal Flower was one of the first native plants that found its way into the gardens of the colonists in North America and it remained there to the day. Indeed it became one of the most beloved flowers there. One gardening author even wrote: `What can surpass or equal our Cardinal Flower`? There is a glow about this flower, as if colour emanated from it as from a live coal.`. What more could be said? Perhaps this: the Cardinal Flowers grows in a wide range from Florida up to southern Canada. It is therefore not true that it isn`t hardy in Central Europe. All it takes to enjoy it for many years is choosing plants that come from northern locations (our come from Illinois), and to plant them where they get wet feet during winter. Winter dryness they won`t survive.
