St. John`s Wort is an old medical plant with small yellow flowers. It is happy on poor stoney soils where it usualy will selfseed. If you hold up one of its leaves to the light, you will see many tiny holes in the leaf. A legend tells that the devil himself pierced the leaves for he was so angry with the healing virtues of the plant. That must have been quite a lot of work and it was all in vain: the plant still has its healing powers.
