In the past Elecampane was grown in Central Europe for medical purposes. Especially its mucolytic abilities were highly esteemed and it was ingredient of every herbal tea mixture to cure cough. Some plants escaped into the open land, but it seems that they are not able to form viable populations here.

`Goliath` is a selection with larger flowers. But also the plant lives up to its name and can grow up to two meters hight when planted on the right spot. In the border the only spot for this giant is in the very back, where it can act as a foil for other plants. If you own a real big pond, you can plant it in moist soil at the waterside and watch it grow into a real Goliath.
