William McLane was founder of Florida Aquatic Nurseries, so it stood to reason to dedicate an exceptional waterlily to him. It is a deep blue and robust variety that was choosen for this purpose. It is one of the first to appear in spring, and under cool conditions the colour is even more intense. These characteristics convinced also the jury of the IWGS and in 1997 they awarded it with the Banksian Medal.
