Kirk Strawn created only two white waterlilies: `White Sultan` and `Laura Strawn`. The later is propagate only by very few nurseries and so it is in danger to go lost to cultivation sooner or later. The reason for this is the fact that `Laura Strawn` produces lots of seed. In a propagation tank seedlings have to be removed for they won`t be identical to the parent plant. So during summer spent flowers of the plant have to be removed daily to prevent them from going to seed. That is quite a lot of work for `only` a white waterlily. The plant however is worth the effort since it is an unusual good and beautiful white variety. Alas all this work is expensive and so `Laura Strain` will always remain one of the more expensive varieties.
