Alexanders is native to the north-east of the USA. It grows in all kinds of wetlands, mainly only really wet soil. Since it becomes quite large, it is a plant for larger water features when it can be used in the background. If it is well watered, it will also grow in an ordinary border. The stalks of this plant have purple veining and young leafs have a purple hue before they turn green. In mid summer it develops a multitude of umbells, that should be cut before the seed ripens to prevent uncontrolled spread. It seems that in the past this plant was regularily consumed in the USA. In the internet you can find several recipies for it. We didn`t dare to test them, for many relatives of Alexanders are poisonous.
