This is the plant that once was used to prepare marshmallow. Marsh Mallow sap whiped with sugar was the main ingredient of the original recipe. Today the Marsh Mallow sap is substituted by gelatin. Even if you don`t know the name it will be obvious at first glance that this plant is a member of the mallow family, although its flowers are smaller than usualy. It used to be a common plant in wet meadows but today it has lost most of its former habitats. In the garden it prefer a moist sunny location, especially in summer the soil should never be allowed to dry out. In the wild it grows up to two meters, in the garden it reaches seldom more than a meter and a half.
