Untill recently this plant was supposed to be a subspecies of the superb pink. However there are enough diffenrence to justify the rank of a species of its own. It is at home on moist mountain meadows in Mongolia and Korea. There it blooms in early summer and its intense pink flowers are visible from afar. They are deeply fringed and carry a wonderfull fragrance of cloves. In the garden it prefers a moist, sunny spot without pushy neighbours.
