Gentian violet is a very rare colour in the garden and for sure it is no colour anyone would expect with a leek. Gentiane-Leek shows excactly this colour, but that is all it got in common mit gentiane. It forms low matts (about 10 cm high) and looks like extremely thin chives. Its flowering period starts in early summer. It was awarded an award of merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, which makes it an undispensable plant for British gardens. In Germany it is hardly known. Since it won`t stand pushy neighbours it is best situated in the front of a border, a stone garden or a trough.
