Coastal Arrowhead is native to Northarmerica where it grows in shallow waterbodies. It can appear in two quite different forms. If planted deeper than 50 cms its foliage transforms to long tapelike leaves. It planted more shallow, it develops lanceolate leaves that stand above the water surface. Depending on the water level it can change between the two forms as necessary. In Europe it is hardy if planted at least 30 cm deep.
