The English version of our internet site is still under construction. We hope to provide all tabulated information in English until mid March 2010. The plant descriptions will be translated bit by bit afterwards.
There are two double varieties of feverfew, one blooms yellow the other one white. We goofed it and got one box of a mix of both varieties that we offer here.
Pidgeon`s Scabious once was common on meadows in Germany, but today it becomes rare. It can`t bear the amount of fertilizer and the early cutting that are usualy in modern agriculture. It is a plant of semi-xeric meadows and it prefers a similar spot in the garden: sunny, poor soil and very good drainage. If you can provide this conditions, it will show gratefull and produce flowers from mid summer till autumn.
There is a lot of rumour around this plant on German internet sites. Its German name resembles that of a famous liqueur, and so the myth tells that the plant is shut away by the liqueur-mafia. Alas it isn`t true. There once was sort of a liqueur-mafia consisting of my great-aunt Creszenzia ...
This raspberry was a present of one of our clients from Lower Saxony. He loves the extrems. To him plants got to be huge or tiny. The creeping raspberry is one of the tiny ones. Its foliage is absolutely miniature and it creeps modestly across the soil. Its home are the mountains of...
This candelabra-typ primrose comes from moist forest and meadows in China. In the garden it is best kept in semi-shade, but the moister the soil the more sun it will take. It bears dark wine-coloured flowers, the underside of the foliage is covered with a white powder.
If you look at the name ( it translates `Bonfire`) and the characteristics of this extraordinary Phlox you might think it is one of the old breeds by Karl Foerster. It isn`t - it is a recent creation from 2001, but it comes from the nursery that once belonged to Karl Foerster. It proofed...
This is a creation by Luc Klinkhamer from 1991. Its flowers are bicolor pink and white, just like oldfashioned candy sticks. The effect is unique, giving the plant a cheerful and somehow loud and child-like impression. For sure it is not suitable for decent plantings tone-in-tone, but unbeatable in a cottage garden and everywhere you wish to create a cheerful atmosphere.
Meadow Phlox is a plant of the Northamerican prairies, they need more water than the other species. `Delta` is a typical meadow phlox, its flowers are white with a pink eye. Unfortunatelly meadow phloxes were underestimated in Europe and hard to get. Only recently it became obvious what ...
To me the most important flowers are those that bloom extremly early and show that way that winter won`t last for ever. I`m not speaking of snowdrops and crocuses - these softies appear only when the worst is already over. No, there is a handfull of flowers that appear much earlier in February or even January. One of them is Winter Heliotrop. Its buds appear under the snow cover and soon start to melt a little cave around them. On the next sunny day the cave melts open and a scent of vanila waves through the garden. In the UK Winter Heliotrop is usualy the first bouquet of the year. That`s a nice custom to copy.
